i need to do a large (+50%) water change on my 120g (total system volume is about 170ish) by the end of this week, and i could use some extra hands (2-3). those with experience in major changes would be appreciated. thanks

May I ask why you need to do a 50% water change? Maybe something we could help with here?

You don't mention where you are located..the 'Wild' will not help most folks figure that out..lol but I know if anyone else was in the fish room when I'm rolling buckets of water around, I'd probably run them over ...have you done such a large change before?

How are you calculating this volume? Replacing 85g may be way more than 50%...the average 120g tank with LR and LS holds less than 90g, and sumps are not filled to full volume.

my sump holds about 20g, and i have a fuge that is 30g, and the dt tank is 120 so its prob about 140-150g then? my LR is quite porous

dont do it do 20% every three days see if it comes down stop feeding and find out why things are high?

I agree. Several small water changes over the course of a few days is better than one huge one.

As I mentioned, the fuge and sump, are (probably) not full, so your total water volume is more like 120g (+/- 10g). So 60g would be a 50% change!
no i ment that it actually has about 20 g in it, its a 30g with the water 5" from the top

even if ph salt and temp are match, would it be just as good, cause its less effective spreed out cause a small amount of the water being taken out has already been changed and is "good water"
