which part of the rubber gasket on the bulk head goes on the glass the grooved side or the flat side.does it really matter?

I believe it goes on the flat/wet side.

rubber on the side where the water is going to be

this stinks no matter what i do im getting a leak in the drain bulk head.i siliconed the nut.then that didnt work so i cleaned off the silicone and tried it bare that didnt work so im thinking maybe i put the gasket in wrong

its hard to do it by myself.i had a guy from here helping me but he got called to work.now i drive all the way to him for holes drilled and finalizing wood work late at night
