Hands down filter socks.. Clearer water, better filtering capabilities.. I stopped using mesh years ago..

ok cool, i'm using the non mesh. I never used mesh before, was wondering what was the benifits of it. But i guess there isn't. lol

Lower nitrate may be one benefit of mesh. The micron socks catch a lot of crap and need to be changed at least weekly - in my tank anyway.
I think there is some confusion here.
Mesh is a material.
Micron is a unit of measurement.
When you see a filter rated to a certain amount of microns it is referring to the size of the particles it will catch.
For example a 100 micron filter will catch everything larger than 100 microns.
Mesh filters will also filter out a certain particle size (in microns).

Well then the biggest difference is that most of the mesh filters allow larger particles through so it depends on your personal preference.
If you are not happy with the filtration capability of the mesh you go with something rated for a smaller particle size.

I use 100 Micron filter socks and change them every 3 days - I wish I could get a week out of them.

House is correct.....I was going to post but I realized It was a micron which I dont run. I run a mesh sock not a felt sock. I have used bolth 200 micron mesh and 200felt. i felt it was no real difference in my system so I used the mesh....it is so dam easy to clean. Just my personal experience. Do not want to start a felt bag vs mesh bag debate....lol
