huh?

Want to pm me? I have the same issue. I keep hearing people go on and on about how great this skimmer is but it doesn't produce much simmate for me. I have the collection cup up high so that what I do get is dark brown but it doesn't get much. I clean it once a week (inside and the cup) I also have tried removing the screw and cleaning it with the brush. Still not a big producer of skimmate.

Start off with the collection cup @ the lowest setting, wait for the skimmer to "break in".........then gradually adjust higher to get the kind of skim you want.

Also make sure the screw is turned the right amount, so that water does not leak out...... otherwise you'll loose pressure.

There's no "dialing" on an Remora....

thats why u aint getting a good skimate u are cleaning the the skimmer once a week.... let the residue build up then clean once in a while. so the foam has something to work off of... if its cleaned off its like starting a brand new skimmer aint gonna do nothing for ya unitl it has that residue on the sides.... i learned this with my skimmer.. works great once the residue is on the sides...

Remoras suck....on a big tank or a small tank. They will poduce skimmate but lack the power to strip the water of your dirty fish poo (nitrates + phosphates) same goes for backpaks or prisims. You'll hear many opinions but I'd suggest you check the application for their remora and see if you admire the results. For the same $$ you can use a small Euroreef and it will kick the remoras a$$

BUT, for those who do have the remora and cannot change, I would suggest upgrading the pump. I've gotten better performance from the urchin pro and remora with larger pumps.

I have the regular flavor remora with the MJ 1200. I notice that once the sides are all gunked up it stops producing skimmate. If I clean it after a few days break in it will produce skimmate again but then stops once it's all gunked up. I think that the rating on this of "up to 75 gallons" is being a bit optomistic. I should probably just e-mail Aqua C and see what they say. If they give me any revolutionary input I'll post it up.

try putting a mag3 on that thing. spykes had it running that way and it did pretty well.

Steve the mag 3 is the reccomended pump on the remora pro. I ran a mag 5 on the Urchin pro (same design as remora but in sump) and it worked much better. You can actually run it wet with a larger pump

I noticed on my FOSW the Remora produced a TON of skimmate- when I put it on my nano reef it started producing a ton, but has since leveled off and it barely produces a quarter in a week in the cup (16g tank). I think once it has skimmed the water there is only so much organic material to skim on a continuous basis- at least if you have a skimmer that is large for your tank size. There can only be so much waste and die off produced on a weekly basis- unless you like really wet 'green water' in your cup.

Also I've noticed less skimmate since adding filter feeders such as a clam, xenia, and a large tube worm.

This is some thing that needs to be taken into account when people keep upgrading to bigger and bigger skimmers as just because your not getting a lot of skimmer doesn't mean it's the skimmer fault it could be that you just don't have the load in the tank to produce more skimmer.
