do we have to use filter sock 100 or 200 micron because we have to change every 5 to7 days can we use a larger sie proteen skimmer insted.

I wish my filter socks could last a week...there are times when I've replaced them every few days...BUT, I'd rather 'trap' that 'crap', before it goes thru the filter. I guessing that 100% of your overflow water goes thru the sock, a much smaller percentage goes thru the skimmer...meaning some of that 'crap' is going right back into the tank.

drharrylopez can tell ya, u hose them in reverse till most of the large crap is removed then u throw them in the wash

yea I pull em inside out, hose em, then throw in the wash. I keep them that way (inside out) n place them in the filter sock holder. the next time i pull em out i reverse the sock right side in, hose n wash. keep them clean

well i removed mine turn inside out use kitchen sink water spray hot water it work very well then soak overnight in dish washing fluid lemon or orange next day or some time 3 to4 days and was it good i never use washing machine wife will not allow that
most of time i change every wed or thursday when i work 4 nights i use 200 micron when i am off 100 micron it realy work for me i use 7 inch dia and 16 inch long with 2 pvc pipe going in all the way to bottom it force water very good .

A powerwasher is really quick cleanup, although not fun or practical to do in the winter.

This is the best deal I've found on the socks... You have to buy 25 though.

Never felt good about using a sock but a good friend on RC said give it a try, already my nitrates have gone down from .25 to .10. I always thought it would strain out all the pods and live organisims.

Yea wife feels the same, but I pre-wash and its washed with the dog's blankets, rugs n stuff.

If so, STOP!
Your tank will be leaching with soap residue, only use bleach to soak and clean your filter socks.

i didnt use them for three years but after i had to because a lot of garbage accumulated in the tank when i blow corals or rocks a lot of garbage comes out this was my mistake not using socks now its almost impossible to get rid of that small garbage sometimes i think to break the tank and start a new

i use a ADHI Refugium/sump and there is no where to put a sock but has a very large refugium area and a polishing block right before the return area and the tank is doing great. i think socks trap to much good stuff

I have an ADHI sump and I use socks as of yesterday and will def continue to use them...
