I originally got into SW because the fish were just so much cooler looking and more full of personality than FW fish, and I was ready for a change. That being said, I was surprised to find myself focusing on all the other aspects of a reef so much more than the fish. At the end of the day though, my crabs take the cake.

My new emerald crab is a monster, hence named Freddy Jr, and he has his own notions about how a tank should be run. I have a few stories about this guy, but tonight was absolutely the best.

I saw him earlier, hanging upside down from a rock projection and reaching out with both arms to my frag rack. After satisfying myself that the distance was too far, and after seeing him give up, I went back to work at my desk. 3 hours later, I wondered if it really was too far... looking back at the tank, he was now latched onto my Zoa frag with both claws and was very determinedly carrying it to the edge of the rack, presumably to drop it to the sand, where I guess it belongs? A rushed removal of the feeder, light and tank covering resulted in me getting my hands in there fast enough to stop him and pry him loose... The zoa is now back in it's temporary spot, and the frag rack is a few inches higher.

Is it just me, or are these guys overflowing with personality? My reef hermit runs in a straight line whenever food is introduced to the tank; usually in the opposite direction of the food, but by god he is booking it. Hitting the glass doesn't seem to make him aware of his mistake either.

I in the same boat and have only 2 fish but about 25 hermits, 4 kinds and they have established teretories and engage in gang warfare nightly. As far as feeding time, i have one large white legged hermit that at first runs around and then failing to get anything stands right in front of me and starts waiving both arms at me.

too funny guys, my sally likes to knock around the hermits. and back when i had my sea urchin it would catch my hermit crabs and carry them on its back...very funny cause the hermit would just chill there after it got tired of trying to get loose.
