And plenty of food. Or they will start eating livestock.
Are you saying they are reef safe because you have read that on liveaquaria.com? Or because you have heard from an overwhelming majority of reefers?
I have heard both arguments and to be sure, in my tank, I have one scarlet hermit and many varieties of snails.
If I cannot trust it, I won't put it in my tank.

In my experience scarlets are the more passive then most other hermits. The only hermits I've ever had issue with in my reef were the ones that got pretty big. Most the other small hermits don't really bother anyone except a few snails when there is a need of a new shell. Hermits are really beneficial to a reef tank as they help clean up detritus that may foul the water. In my tank, I mostly use them with my yellow and kole tank to keep hair algae at bay. I would be careful about some advice on the numbers you should get that are given by LFS though. They have a tendency to over cram tanks with these lil guys. You gotta keep in mind that with that many individual crabs in that small amount of space, the bio load goes way up and when they run out of food they starve to death. Just add when u think its necessary.

I would definately remove those.
I think you have everything you need to decide. Most of this hobby is gathering all the ideas of others and deciding what you want to do.
Every tank is different.

Hey there, It was good meet you taday at the meet.

Just read thru your thread and I'd be glad to assist you with your tank. I have a good sized piece of live rock that i can give you to seed your other rocks. PM me when you can come by and pick it up. also bring a sample of your water to test.

Today I did a water change about 15 gallons and I added my new dosing pump will post pictures later today. All my parameters where good:
Calc 435
Alk. 9.0
Phos. 0.0 for what I can tell
Mag 1125 (a little low added 1/4 gal)

All coral and fish look happy I do need a few more herm crabs. Will be adding my 1/3 chiller some time this months (new born so need to keep heat on a little high in the house)
I changed the GFO in the reactor.
Again will post updated pics later today.
