I was thinking about this just now and am now just about convinced to re-design my sump. The whole reason why I made my refugium was to remove any phosphates/nitrates in my tank. Throughout the life of my tank, my nitrates have never even been traceable, except during the cycle, and my phosphates were never at a very elevated level. I now have SPS and I bought a phosban reactor to run carbon and phosban. Now I am considering removing my refugium for several reasons. 1st, the light causes algae to grow in my plumbing and its a PITA to clean. 2nd, the caulerpa in there won't be doing much anymore since my phosphates will now be pretty much untraceable, and 3rd, I have always had a microbubble problem. The reason why is because my return pump is just too close to the waterfall coming over the baffles. It is also annoying to top off because I do not have an ATO and the small return pump space requires topping off every day. The larger space that I would have if I took out the refugium would allow the pump to be far from the baffles reducing microbubbles, and I wouldn't have to top off all the time.
What do you guys think? Should I remove my refugium?
