Tank: 325 gals
Sump: 180 gal, 72x24x24, water level @12"
Return pump: Sequence Barracuda
Skimmer: Aerofoamer 848, 48" tall, 8" dia., venturi injector using a blueline 100 pump@ 350w, approx 1000 gph through skimmer.
I have this bug in my butt telling me to do something with my skimmer. It performs well but with these new cone/needle/pin wheel skimmers, could I do better using a smaller model, using less power, and more efficient?
Here is what I'm thinking:
1. Buy a new cone skimmer or modern comparable, but the cost bothers me.
2. Buy the Reeflo Orca Dart neddle wheel pump and use it on my current skimmmer, but then I need another pump to supply water. Or try several smaller needle wheels pumps.
3. Or leave it as is because the electricity savings will never cover the cost of upgrading.
I would love to hear your opinion!
