Sweet! I love oak. It's pretty bad that the trim costs more than the rest of the canopy though!

I finished the outside of my hood, Then painted the inside with oil based flat white. Three or so coats with a light sanding in between coats. I couldn't find epoxy paint in white (I only needed a pint or so) so I went with oil based.

I used the same paint on the inside of my stand as well.

Great job!

I was just at homedepot last week trying to fine the perfect wood for my canopy too. All the wood they had there were crap and not to pleasing.. I was thinking 1/2 inch oak or high quailty plywood.. I still haven't had the time to built it yet. But I think instead of going out and buy 1/2 inch for my canopy, I am just going to use the 3/8 inch plywood I already have and built it with that. Gonna be a little heavy though..

BC, I am also going to use the same paint for my stand and canopy. I got my white oil base Kilz at HD.. I'm thinking I am going to apply the Spar Uth.. first and they apply the oil base paint..

do they have that rustoleum epoxy appliance paint in white? i bought it in black for the back of my new tank. i forgot to look if they had white though. is kilz a good paint for ply wood? i bought some random exterior paint from HD last time and it wouldn't stick to the plywood. i had to prime the wood with gripper b4 adding the exterior paint. the paint is holding up so far, but it gets stained easily.

Kilz is a primer and in my experience w/ it has stood up well. Ive put it over dark oil paints as well as stained woods and it has gone over w/o seepage. I have it in my pendant but it is made of aluminum not wood, but so far so good IMO. In many a thread in RC ive seen it used though
best of luck, hood looks SCHHWeeeet

CTX check out 1/2" oak veneer ply at Lowes. It looks like real wood, but it's ply so it's cheaper and stronger.

You just have to seal or trim the end grain, so you don't see the plywood layers.

question : what you think oceanic and major brand tank company use. their use oak ply and finish the ends and trims with solid oak..

a sheet of oak ply 3/4 =$45
crown modelling 10 ft =$20
solid oak doors 48x11 1/4 =$30
I use a pieceof solid oak in the front = $7

use the oak 3/4 ply..I will take a picture of my stand and I use oak ply and do the trim will parke wood. Can you tell?
