So recently I've been thinking about removing my deep sand bed there seems to be a lot of benefits too removing it !
What r the benefits of a deep sand bed ?
Matt...your tank is too new for the DSB to leach phosphates...my first sandbed lasted about seven years before I had to replace it....many now remove some and add some at intervals over the years to preserve it.
4" isnt a dsb. look at everything you do, so you rinse the frozzen foods ? u using ro\di ? you dosing anything, ive seen a number of threads of yours, and seems your not letting things do their job nothing is overnight in this hobby except a crash
I understand but thought I would have gotten a little handle on it by now but does not seem to budge unless I remove it manually and I think that does more harm then good disturbing everything!
I don't wanna let it take over the whole tank!
I feed mysis every other day and was feeding oyster feast every few days but stopped that all together a few weeks ago
Just got an mp 40 so I'm hopping that will help
Also added a bunch of macro about a week ago
3 lg turbo snails and a sea hare
That's a good point I'm not sure I spoke to another guy here who said by removing his sand bed he's reduced all the po4 no3 etc... He removed a little over a few water changes
when I removed mine I tried the barebottom thing...I didn't like the look even after it encrusted and it was more work constantly siphoning the bottom of detris
How old is your tank?
After my initial algae outbreak I had a secondary one of hair algae. I attacked it by reduced feeding, a phosban reactor and harvesting. I have always used RODI. I also increased the amt of water changes. I'm good now but it took about a month.
