There is A LOT of good heaters out there the eheims are good. I know a bunch of people hate the stealth heaters and have reported issues but I never had a problem with them. I have actually never had any issues w/ a heater and I have never bought one brand new. I'm currently using a stealth , a tronic and some other heater that is so old the writing is scratched off lol. I have a few heaters I'm not using 1 being a 250w Jager. What wattage are you looking for?

I'm now running 2 250 watt Jagers, good heaters. I would stay away from Finnex, I had a brand new Finnex titanium and it failed in two months (covered under warranty). If you go with Titanium or stainless you have to have a ground probe installed somewhere in your tank to protect you and the animals from stray voltages in the water.

Heaters are inexpensive, I have 3-150W glass heaters. The knock on these heaters is that they break. The Titaium has a metal shell n cost a few dollors more.

I beleive the biggest issue is if you trust the temp gauge on the heatr itself or are you going to use a controller. I use a controller.

redondancy, 2-150 W heaters are more effeciecnt than 1-200W heater. Also if one dies you still have one pulling the load. I have three. Of course, during our maintaince you periodically ck the heaters to make sure they are functioning properly.

my 2 cents :)

As a hobbyist I can say from experience that heaters are the #1 piece of equipment to fail in our systems. As a vendor I can say that heaters are the #1 piece of equipment to fail in our systems. No joke, no joking matter.

Dr. Harry gave the most helpful info.....two smaller heaters for redundancy are better than one larger heater. And, both heaters on a controller are better than both heaters not on a controller.
THIS IS FACT, NOT AN OPINION.

As far as heaters themselves, I prefer the Eheim Jager over all the hobbyist grade titanium heaters, and thermo-plastic heaters. As already stated, you need to be more careful with the EJ because they are glass, but they seem to be more reliable than any other hobbyist grade heater I've ever used.

Thank you all for your input, decided to go with 4 250 watt jagers, now I run a AC3, would you guys put the heaters to the max and controll it with the ac3, or set it at a certain temp, and have ac3 as a fail safe to turn them off if desired temp is over limit
