I was wondering this myself. I have a 100micron felt sock. I was thinking of using a 200 micron mesh bag in front of it so that i wont have to wash the felt bags as often.

Any input?

you can use either one, but i wouldn't do it just to not have to change as often.
in fact u should be changing them out as often as u can. (mine at least every other day)

I run my pair of socks for the week, then change them at the same time that I clean my skimmer. I use multiple pairs so that at the end of the month I just throw the whole bunch in the washer with a little bit of bleach and extra rinse. Works like a charm.

When i say i use a mesh bag (200 micron) before the felt bag (100 micron) in order to clean less.... i mean that i clean the mesh bag (easier to clean) daily or every other day this way i can clean the mesh bag once a week (tougher to clean).

All this as opposed to cleaning the mesh bag 2-3 times weeekly.
