What's lowest temp?

What is the lowest temp sps/ fish can tolerate I'm buying a new heater today and im getting a controller to keep temp steady but recently temp been down to 73 -74

did you lose any sps at 73? Ever since i upgraded my sump i have more water to heat and with cold temps this weekend it droped down to 75 but 73 seams to cold to me. I would get 500w for your tank

I would get 500w for your tank

I would do 2 250's or 300's on a controller, I like a little redundancy.

Matt....I wouldn't let it get below 75 for any extended period of time and as mentioned don't use one large heater use two or three smaller ones.

I have a controller for my heating and chiller. I knew something was wrong, when my tank dropped to 76 degrees, when I know the lowest was supposed to be 78 degrees.

Low and behold, one of my heaters went bad. I use 3. 2 in the display tank and one in the sump.In the winter, I keep the tank heated at 78 to 79 degrees and just for clarity, in the summer, my tank is set to 81 to 83 degrees.

A key point, is that it is no so much the temperature ( within reason), as the fluctuation of degrees in 1 day. The rule of thumb is no more than 4 degree fluctuation in 1 day. However, I try to limit my tank to 2 degree changes during any given day.

matt whats the room temp were the tank sits, my house tank barly uses a heater because room is 73 all winter

I picked up 2 200watt heaters temp is back to normal
The room is in the high 60s

so you keep room cold so 2-200w should be fine, i use 4-500w and 1 -1000w on my office because it gets cold at night and heat shuts off at 6pm,lol

LIPA loves me, when chiller runs in summer when A/c shuts off that draws 13.8 amps

I had 4 300 watt heaters and my temps jumped around a lot. Lows at 76 high's at 79. I just recently intalled 2 -1000w heaters and things are much more stable.

mine was 60 when the chiller got wired and bought the tank down to 60 it took me two days to bring to temp back up
