If you use just that it will throw off the Ionic of the water now if you get mag flakes and epson salt and mix the two it will not throw off the Ionic of the water. But it has to be mixed a certain way

DON"T use that stuff from HD....the only stuff I trust is MAG flake or pellets. I've been using it for years and only cost about $15 for 50lbs, but it's getting harder to find. ..usually this time of year someone will find it and post up and as mentioned epson salt if used long term will screw up the water chemistry.

I bought a 50 lbs bag of mag flakes about four years ago and I'ved used a bit more than half of it.
Great investment I made. I also bought 2 x 50lbs of Dow flakes and have been using it ever since.
Randys the best he saved me a ton of money.

Use of Epson salt is acceptable Mg supplement if combined with at least 30% water changes per month. Most reefers do larger % water changes.

I have no problems or any ill effects with my reef.
