Do I need to replace the carbon in my sump. If so how often and how much? Is it a special carbon?

Running carbon 24/7 is not necessary but most do especially with LNS (low nutrient systems). If you have been running carbon change it every 4 weeks. The types of carbon vary. I would recommend high grade/premium carbon for reef aquariums. Some cheaper carbon leeches undesirables such as PO4.
