Sorry chief apparently these units are only available in Europe and Canada, this is because of Orbitecs patent in the US.

however the 48" 1200 unit retails for $2899. in Canada

These units look extremely promising. I have been looking into them for some time. However, with patent issues here in the US they are focusing on other countries. A real shame.

This has actually been around for a while in the A/I units. Was really cool the first time I saw this but the fish in the tank looked like they were about to have a stroke...:splitspin

Its funny you should mention that , however look at it this way, in nature who protects the inhabitants of a reef from lightning? I'm sure that they have their ways of coping with situations such as storms and lightning strikes. this is when caves or holes in the rock formation become handy.

This feature just became available in the AI units via their controller, now its possible to get storms, lightning and a few other helpful features without having to have a third party controller. Prior to this firmware update from AI such features were available with third party controllers such as the Profilux.

I think that can best be answered with the old question of, " Do I need it or do I want it."

like closetfishgeek stated, it works in nature but probably not as useful in our tanks. try watching television while having a lightning storm in your tank.

That's a tough question to answer and interesting at the same time, maybe we can have someone chime in on its effects.

Your correct chief, scott is a great guy. I'll have a talk with him and see if he can send me some pics when the unit comes in.He has a dual rimless tank in his office which he can demo on.
