I had the same problem in my old 92. Everything seemed be good, couldn't figure it out why I was getting red slime. Then I remembered my MH bulbs were old, changed them out put in some conch snails and everything was fine, never had the problem again.

are u running a skimmer in the sump? Do you have socks in the sump that have been there a while? If your lighting is old that could cause it as well.

What is your phosphate level? I had a problem with Cyano for a over a year and it wound up being the reef crystals I was using. You can in the interim use special blend, it will compete with the Cyano for the nutrients and eventually win causing the Cyano to die, mind you this is just a band aid until you find out what the cause is.

i would say that since he is having issues with cyano he almost certainly has a phosphate problem. I just dont see what measuring it will do at this point, unless you suspect the reef crystals are high in phos when he is mixing it.

I'm thinking it's a combination of the two and also wanted to know if he was even testing for it which I don't think he is and most likely isn't running GFO or the like.
