i use esv salt and my mag is always 1260

That's strange because mine always mixes up at 1550 but then again it is the first box I'm going to mix up a 30 gal batch today with a new ESV 200 gal salt mix kit and see what the mag is. I'll post my findings later.

1350 and I use Magflake. I know that keeping the mag under the 1350 may cause problems with keeping the cal and alk stabilized, but I'm not sure what the risks are for running it higher than the 1500 which is recommmended....maybe it could cause the cal to fall out of solution...a question for Boomer.

what is too high and what can go wrong if mg is too high (sorry to jump in)

too high of magnesium will slowly kill off snails and hermit crabs, or other inverts. but is also effective on trying to nucent bryopsis or other types of annoying algae's

thanks, I mixed esv yesterday and I mistakenly put an extra scoop of mg in. I corrected it by making a larger batch of SW but wondered what could go wrong if I left it.

Mag reading on 30 gal batch

i use esv salt and my mag is always 1260

I mixed up a 30 gal batch to 1.025 salinity at 77 degrees and the MAG reading on this batch was 1530. What salinity are you mixing too?
