so I got a new refracto. I had the guy in the store calibrate it. when i got home and checked my reef thiss thing says 1.030 .. i checked it on some ro water and it reads O

my old refracto still reads 1.026, but when I test it with some ro is come up well below zero..

wierd thing is my reef looks great. cal alk mag all within range.

is it ok to lower it back down? how slowly do I go? im a lil freaked out. even my magnifica , clams and sps look great.

how bad is it to be at 1.030?

i had the same problem the other day, you just have to cross reference you water samples and devices to see if they are accurate. Go to a lfs and ask to get a water sample and test it with yr old hydrometer. and see if it matches thats all. 1.030 is high to high for me. 1.025 is good for my reef tank

As stated above, I would double check both devices, however it sounds like your old refract is off and new one is spot on. To be safe you should double check both devices with a liquid that has a known salinity....logically you have no more reason to trust the new than you do the old.

thats what i was thinnking . we did cross check it vs the lfs meter and its at 0 with RO im inclined to belive the new one.

I am just not sure how quickly I can bring it down to 1.026 without hurting anything in the tank.
