Royal Grammas are all about that, or finding a hole and staying in it only poking their head out. I've been told that they live real deep where up and down have no meaning. Thus they are often found upside down, or vertical.

How long have you had him? It took mine three weeks to start coming out.

As fritz said, that is perfectly normal. Royal grammas live on caves and reef slopes, where they love to hug the rocks. So in overhangs they love to hang out upside down. If you were to place it in a clear jar with a lid he would do the same thing. Nice fish btw, i love mine.
