I just took my BRS dual GFO/Carbon reactor offline and am putting two Nextreef MR1 reactors in its place and only put one Nextreef online with GFO and am contemplating if I should put the second one online with carbon, so I am curious as to how often you run carbon?

BTW, The Nextreef MR1 reactor is a nice piece of equipment.

Do you like the nextreef better than BRS?

Sent from my iPhone using Reefs

Yes, it's built well and holds more media than the BRS dual reactor. The BRS dual reactor is a good product & price but my system out grew it, The one thing I didn't care for was that the plastic media container is relatively small and discolored making it difficult to see if the GFO was tumbling.

i have the Nextreef dual and i think it is not good if you run bio bellets because its a pain that you have to disconect both just to change one chamber IMO. when i ran gfo and carbon i would chane both same time.

I would run carbon because makes water very clean looking not yellow and takes out any bad stuff in the water column

I bought 2 individual Nextreef MR1 reactors and one Nextreef SMR1 reactor in case I decided to run pellets.

You want to be running Carbon all the time. No hurt in not doing it and just makes a cleaner tank in the long run imo.

Why would you not want to run the carbon? If you picked up two MR1 reactors and a 3rd saved for pellets then money isn't an issue. Curious as to why you wouldn't want to.

Also, I have a BRS carb/gfo reactor on my 180g tank. It's half filled and thats more than I need already. How big is your tank that your tank outgrew it? And my media containers are clear, don't have any problems seeing the media.

Im contemplating the Nextreef for biopellets soon, that or the other pellet reactor on the marker, the name escapes me. Im leaning away from the Nextreef just because of the screws on top.

I was just curious, I was running carbon all of the time but have heard different views on how and when to run it, some people only run carbon 2 weeks out of the month before they do a water change.
My total water volume went to about 130 gal when I upgraded to a 40 gal sump. I'm not using the High capacity GFO or Carbon so it takes up a lot more room in the canister. I like BRS products and the dual reactor served me well but the internal media canisters did discolor and IMO are a PIA to clean & fill.
I like the Nextreef and really do share your concerns regarding the screws, it does however provide quicker access. I drilled a hole in the top flange and put a bolt through it so the top cannot slide open or accidentally get knocked off by little hands and one crazy Kitten. Other than that it is a solid piece at a good price point.
I'm going to put the carbon online, but now I have to work up the nerve to go over to the pellets, I'm afraid of those things.
