I just made a diy phosban reactor to fit in the middle rear chamber of my Solana out of a gatorade bottle.
The media package say 50g. per 50 Gal. of water.
The problem is its about 1/3" of media. I would like about 3/4 of an inch so I could get it tumbling a little easier.
Is there any reason I should not add more than the reccomended amount?

exactly...follow the directions or less than the recommended amount to start....too much too fast will play havoc with the alk as well as strip the water too quickly of phosphates....both can kill coral especially SPS....been there!

Seriously. Since you have a problem with hair algae and suspect phosphate leeching from your rocks, I would use as much as you could.
Phosban is a sink. Meaning it will not release bank into the tank. So we hear. That being the case a little overkill to scavenge all you can shouldn't hurt.

Yea Baby. Good deal on that.
I Quickly scrapped the DIY reactor. I tested it in a big pot and found that it would back siphon when removing unit from the water.
I dont want to deal with al that. So I got the TLF Reactor.

Why would you use as much as you can with phosban? That's going to mess up your tank chemistry pretty fast. Start with maybe a tablespoon and work your way up. Go slow with phosban. I wiped out my lps and my alk went all out of tune years ago when I decided that I didnt' have to follow directions. You need to go slow with phosban.
