I bought the skimmer on Saturday. The bubbles dont seem to be reaching the collections cup. Is this the way it should be or is the ar valve to loose? The tighter i make it the less bubbbles seem to be forming around the tornado.

Is your water level correct?

Are there fish In the tank?

Skimmers take time to break in. I would set to manufacturers settings and wait 1-2 weeks for it to break in.

Did you feed recently?

All things that can cause the bubbles to be low.

One of the problems with the sea clone is its need for constant adjustment. Adjust the airflow so that you see a looser spiral of bubbles...a tight "tornado" isn't that good. Should be looser...not too loose though. Basically you have to adjust it a lot. Also the airline gets clogged with salt and needs to be cleaned weekly.

Yeah I have a sea clone but I really wanna upgrade...also, make sure that your air tubing is not bent or dented by something else on the tank, such as light stands. That was one of my problems...another thing is, do you dose anything in your tank?

if your water level is a little higher than where the skimmer pump is that is a good water level any thing higher i noticed on mine will minimize the bubbling of the skimmer.
usually it does take a few days like 2 days for the skimmer to break in so if you tried to break it in before using it then it should be working good.
you also need to play around with the bubble tubing switch. some skimmers like my bigger one which is an aqua C works well on fully open switch.
also depending if you just fed your fish/corals and your skimmer was off you'll notice that as soon as you turn the skimmer back on there will be more bubbles coming out then you will have to adjust it again because it will cause your tank to have a lot of bubbles. then you can use some sort of a sock and attach it to the output of the simmer to minimize the bubbles.
just play with your airline switch and it should bubble up properly.

And for some strange reason, I dont know if this only happens to the sea clone, but when you dose supplements or any additives, it stops giving off the waste...any thoughts on this?

I dose it with Reef Code A B. This morning there was about a 1/4 inch of brown liquid in the cup. I guess it is working. This model really gets some bad reviews. Im going to stick it out for a while. Thanks for all the replys.

I got a SeaClone with my first tank. I couldn't get it to do anything consistently. I wouldn't hold a cyclone, wouldn't make bubbles it was really useless. Everyone said that SeaClones were junk, but I figured it was just more internet nonsense, so I bought a brand new SeaClone and had exactly the same results. No bubbles of any kind, even after days of break in. I returned the skimmer and bought an Aqua C and was very surprised to see how a real protein skimmer worked. Quickly making bubbles with just a little bit of initial adjustment.

I think the bottom line is that calling a SeaClone junk is understating things. They just dont work well, they dont stay 'calibrated' and even if you do get it to skim, it doesnt skim enough to be really useful. There are plenty of skimmers out there on the used market for $50-$100 that will work perfectly on your system. I would really suggest that route.
