killing live rock?

ok i am redoing my 40 breeder and going to start fresh
so my question is i removed all the rock and its outside in buckets right now how long before it died?
i am going to wait and they bring it back in and scrab the s$$$ out of it
so how long should i leave it outside for?

You don't have to leave it outside if you are trying to kill it. Put it in a bucket with bleach a 1 part bleach to 10 parts of hot water will be good. Let is set for 24 hours, Then rinse the rock soak it in clean fresh water with dechlorinator, overnight, smell the rock see if it smells like chlorine still if so use the dechlorinator again. And for added measure you can boil it for a few minutes to remove some tougher things from the rock

just put it ina tub , no lights and let it recycle for a few months. what are you trying to kill?
