so for weeks now my skimmer has been acting funny.i clean it out and make sure the air intake is always free of being clogged but it bubbles over.the only thing that us different is the stand that was built gets no good air flow.i do have 4 vents but it still gets stuffy.i was thinking of adding a long air intake line to outside of stand.will this affect performance of skimmer.do you think lack of air might be causing the this to happen.its not anything that im adding to tank thats making it bubble over.

look on the pump where the air tube attaches is a little hard plastic tube. salt creep can get in that lil tube and needs to be picked out with a pin or nail or something. also yes i think it can be the stand, the long tube will not effect the skimmer and its cheap to try. but first look at the little nipple on the pump if its all choked up with salt creep that can be the problem.

no its not the little nipple.i just cleaned the skimmer 3 days ago and actually bored out the nipple a touch with a scissor and used a pin to clean all the way down.i will try a long air line to outside of stand

Could be fumes, I would check the water height though. What type of skimmer is it? On my Reef Octopus, When I move the outlet up or down it affects the skimmer. I can get mine to overflow if I put the pipe up all the way. Did you add any chemicals to the tank like Red slime remover?

the stand was built 5 months ago.i add nothing to the tank except food and esv.and it bubbled up yesterday and i added nothing to the tank but the doors were closed for 4 hours.its a asm series skimmer.and the skimmer has both mods on it.mesh and turso pipe.it works fine until the doors are closed for a period of time.

something has gotten into the water or you had a spawn, the doors being closed would not cause it to over flow. even thought you might have cleaned the pumps and air inlet id pour some really hot ro water down air tubes, worse case get a polypad and see if it pulls anything

noob its been doing it ever since i built the stand.nothing is in the water.when i open the stand after being closed all day its like a sauna in there.im thinking its lack of air inside the stand causing the skimmer to pull stale air.im going to leave doors closed for the night and see.it only happens when doors are closed for a period of time

is the whole area sealed where sump is ? if so you might think about adding a fan to the stand to bring air in and once summer comes you really will want too, beside even if coated really well if it is almost air tight it will eventually cause a problem with the wood

no its not totally closed i have 2 vents in the upper portion of the stand where the fuge is.its 2 12x4 vents and in the lower part is another 2 vents 12x4.i pointed the vent slits up so when the ceiling fan is on the air will blow into the stand.but even with the vents it feels tropical in there

Where does your 2-part get added?

If it's near the skimmer try a different spot.

Are you feeding anything different? Different brand, type, etc.?

Just thinking of a few things that can make your skimmer go nuts.

no same foods same 3 drops of gx.i pour the esv in the return chamber but havent dosed in a couple of days.i had this skimmer on my 125 and it never overflowed.im lost.i just cant figure out why its overflowing.i first thought that my drain was draining to fast and was raising the sump water but that wasnt it.i marked the water line and when it overflowed the line was the same.then i thought about a clog somewhere so i cleaned it all out and that wasnt it.then i thought maybe something getting into the water but nothing was different and when it overflows i add nothing to the tank.and if it was something in water why would it run fine for hours then just start overflowing.if it was something in water it would be seconds before it overflowed.so confused
