Hey Guys

Saw my friends 65g 3 year old reef last evening. His tank is being overrun with rather large, green with brown rims and one white slash paly's. And I do mean overrun. Most rocks have it and several rocks are completely covered. It's on the back glass and starting to grow on the base of his other corals. It just grows like a weed. Worse than pom-pom zenia if you can believe that! (Although he has quite a bit of that growing too! under control however).

Any ideas on how to scale this back? I guess there is the obvious of pulling the rocks out of the tank and using whatever means necessary to remove the paly's. This would probably require the rocks to be re-cured which is not something we want to do, but perhaps it's the only method. I also feel that unless we erradicate it complelety, it's gonna grow back. It's that pervasive.

Are there any fish or inverts that would do the job "more naturally"? We are aware of Palytoxin, so using extreme caution. Thanks

You mentioned the palytoxin, in my experience and in talking with a couple professionals on this subject recently, the fast growing invasive palys seem to be ones that often cause problems with palytoxin(not to say others don't), so please use plenty of caution when taking care of this. Wish I could give better advice but do be careful. :)

Great idea is to contact PaulB and see if his zapper will work on Paly's

I have used Paul's zapper on invasive brown Palys and it did not work perfectly. It beat the hell out of them, but they eventually grew back. Was a help, but not a solution.

Just so you are aware, I am working with Paul to manufacture more of the zapper, which will be known as the "Majano Wand", but I think my opinion is unbiased and impartial.

Sent from my iPod touch using Reefs, so please excuse typos and shortness.
