Hello. I am very close to moving into an apartment that has a basement, so I can finally go forward with my plan to get a large Reef Ready tank! (BTW, the several month apartment search depressed me so that I didn't think I was going to be able to set up a large reef tank in my life time... oh the stress of looking for an apt in NYC...)

In any case...

I was thinking about going with a 180 or 215 Oceanic RR tank. Unfortunately a lot of places that sell tanks want you to buy $5000 worth of skimmers, lights and other accessories in order to buy the tank (ie; New World Aquarium). I personally would rather put together my own reef setup using various brands based on their online reviews and not be contrained by whatever brands the fish store happens to carry.

Can you guys suggest any places that carry Oceanic tanks and sell them a la carte? (with stand, of course)

I figure I could always try to get an All-Glass tank via Petco or Petland, but wanted to go with an Oceanic.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Bill

Try pets warehouse in copiague, LI. They are out in LI but have fair pricing and you might be able to do it all over the phone if you know exactly what u want.

Hey there!

Yeah, looking for a new place nearly killed me. Evidently I am a real estate searching wimp! (smile)

I am a day or two away from securing a place down the street from me with a real basement. No more worries about weight... now I just have to think about what I would like to set up... and then begin worrying about other issues... (grin)

Now if I can eventually just make it 1/2 as organized and beautiful as your tank... then life will be good! How is the tank treating you anyhow? Did you get to try the wine yet - if so, I hope it was ok.

Talk to you later.

Well, the apt fell through... on the market for a month and a half... I get interested in it and it rents the NEXT day... what luck.

I am going to check out another place in Chelsea tomorrow that has a finished basement... it is a bit pricey but it is time to pull the trigger on a ground floor / basement apt...

Is there anything more difficult / expensive in this city than finding an apartment?

Take care.
