I place 2 peppermint shrimp in my sump (temporarily) due to the fact that they ate my acan. Would they eat the pods in there? I think my mandarin is getting skinny and I am trying to put 2n2 together.

Much thanks,

~James

I HIGHLY doubt your peppermints ate your acan..peppermints do not eat corals. Maybe you had some die off on there and there was some type of algae or other matter in the spot and they were eating that but it is very unlikely they ate the coral itself.

I had a peppermint shred a couple of torches and damage other LPS right after I had spot fed them. It was trying to rip into the side of the coral to get to the food so he may not have eaten the acan, but damaged it causing it to die. Either way the peppermint gotta go.

yea but that's not because it wanted to eat the corals it's because you feed the corals and not the shrimp lol When I spot feed my duncans before my fish my yellow tang takes mysis out of my duncans..yellow tangs don't eat corals. It's kind of like how people train circus animals and zoo animals you gotta feed them 1st then they will not attack. Same type of thing..the shrimp was just hungry and the food was in a spot he could easily eat from.

Dom I have heard about them eating zoos but I thought it was more like something people just thought rather than actually saw. Have you ever seen them eat corals or zoos in particular ? I have had several peppermints and have never seen them touch a coral. I have seen asterinas eat zoos for sure and now that my tank is pretty much rid of them I see a hell of a lot less disappearing.
