i just dont understand the big deal other then how cool they look or is that why everyone wants them or do they reproduce or something and you can sell the offspring? i always see like these extremely expensive clams like over 1-200 and i dont see the big deal on why they are so expensive.

I have seen smaller ones as low as 20 bucks. It takes a long time for clams to grow so as they get bigger so does the price tag. Some are very nice and a high price is warranted others not so much.. The aquacultured ones are also more expensive. The main reason is simple economics.

Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. I think that black tangs are cool looking fish but I could never bring myself to paying 500 bucks for one. On the flip side of that I paid 15k for a piebald ball python in 2002 and everyone thought I was nuts. Everyone is different

for clams, you need to understand the hobby and cherish the animals enough...and then you will understand money is not the issue...just like any other animal. they really are not on "high demand" though. they are widly available everywhere. i remember a few months ago when pacific aquatics got a shipment of over 500+ 6-8 inch clams selling from $250-500. when the tank is established enough and the lighting is strong enough, many hobbiests like to try them because they are amazing specimens to watch and grow...
