The pet shops that use tap water, probably have no problems[at least no visible problems] because their stock is moved quickly and never given a chance to live long term.

How recently is recent? If you just started the tank it's probably just a phase of algae that will go away with time, water changes, and a nice little clean up crew. I can't imagine how DI waters, taking a toll on your wallet on a tank that small :D.

Thats a lot of light for a 2.5g.

usually pathmarks or shoprights sell distilled water for a 1.00 a gallon. As for the chaeto, my opinion is the tank is relatively new and small for a big amount of it. I've heard in small bioloads there isnt enough waste or whatever for it to survive. But who knows- if it doesnt work out so many ppl out there will buy it, and its easiest to ship, in a ziplock bag:)

I was just curious if there were fish stores around here so if i get bored one afternoon i can take a drive, I'm in the process of setting up a new tank at home, so i'm not really looking to buy any live stock right now

A deli. Forget about CVS, its probably and seems to be over priced in any case. A gallon should be able to last you a week or more if your losing a cup a day.

You said your gonna buy a conditioner for the tap water??? Why would you do that?

cause if he is going to be using crap ( i mean tap) water.. i would use a conditioner 2... as they have said just buy the distilled from the store, u and ur tank are much better off...
