What do you guys find to be the best size for a QT tank?

I'll be setting one up this time around and I can't decide how many gallons I should use. I'm tight on space so i'm thinking 20-30gs-

I know i've seen ppl just put the old school air filters in w/ no LR or sand. How do u guys have yours set up?

heater, power heads
some LR frags i have
and decent lighting
and only doing one fish at a time-

but do u keep the tank running 24/7 or only when u need it?

I've been running 20G High for my quarantine tank for almost 4months now.
I am running two small power head for undergravel filter with crushed coral.
I have no skimmer and no rocks due to copper and other treatments,
just 2" PVC pipe for hiding space. I will keep running this tank until my fish list filled in Main tank.

I quarantine one fish at a time and 20% water change every two weeks.

Rocks!!! What do you do if infection breaks out? It will get in your rocks.

My QT tank if often a hospital tank. I treat copper in it and once the treatment is over I remove all water and fill with water from my main tank. I have several large PVC elbows and random PVC pipes to not stress the fish to badly. It's a 20H with a maxijet 1200 for circulation and I think most importantly BARE BOTTOM! I'm a big fan of QT or hospital tanks being empty like it's a fish sore. Everything 100% inert. BB makes it easy to remove waste as well.

I know that copper is supposed to get into the silicone on the tank but after treatments my copper levels are undetectable. I thought it might get into the PVC as well but so far it hasn't. I keep an eye on it anyway just to make sure. I'd hate to have a frag in there and it be killed by some kind of copper spike.

I have a 29g AGA tank with a NO stip light (I only QT fish as my tank is a FOWLR). I have a 100w heater, Remora Skimmer with MJ1200 (was from old tank) and a homemade filter with bio-balls run by a MJ1200. I leave it running when its empty and feed the tank every few days to keep the bio-filter running. I also had some LR in there until I needed to treat with meds and I pulled it out.

Here is a pic of mine:

no rocks in a QT/Hospital tank, it will absorb copper and medication.

I have a 30gal, w/ an old Prizm ,Aquaclear filter, 150watt heater, spare PC hood, and some PVC fittings.

Hey Drunktank nice to see that you are joining the QT CLUB. Consider it the best money you will ever spend.I would say to go with a 20 -30 gallon tank. They are cheap and I'm sure someone has one laying around if you post a thread. If not check craigslist. The reason I suggest 20-30 gallon is because I used to have a 10 gallon and the water parameters fluctuate quickly. I have a 35 gallon tank that a friend of mine gave me with a canister filter. It has a cover with light.I added a heater ,thermometer, sand and a couple of pieces of live rock.I also have a uv sterilizer as an extra precaution that also was one piece of equiptment that a friend had laying around. I just had to buy a uv bulb. Tank is running since November. One fish went through the process and a second is in there as we speak. I bought a fish once that had ick and learned a valuable lesson. I only gamble now by playing lotto.LOL.
