Pushing The Limited Reef Fish

I know everyone's opposed to having brackish fish in a reef tank, but I like to push the limits. So I decided to make my tank a little different. I acclimated a shark cat and put him in my reef. He lived for about 9 months before he died. Not because of anything, my tank malfunctioned. In that time no corals or fish were bothered. I like the fact that he swam around the reef like sharks do. I am not saying to run out and do this. I keep him well fed. So for the he'll of it I decided to re-introduce the shark cat again. But this time also introducing a green puffer. I know they eat snails but so far all he does is graze rocks.Just to give you idea I have 100 gallon tank with over 50 kinds of SPS, shrimps crabs, all the norm. Its not that I don't no what I am doing. I am just experimenting and decided to take you guys with me. Any thoughts? I know am a little crazy. I will see about getting pics up.

There is a web site showing all the fish out there which have been sucuessfully acclimated...except most were 10+ hour acclimation... Only quick one was certain mollys

Why not just sell ur corals and start over with bra water fishes????

Also any brackish water fish that have been introduced to marine levels of salt all die within the first year. Most within the first 2 months.

The fish are all set .There acclimated .I spent about 5hr acclimateing .there eating doing grate.I have done it many times before.

I love my tank.that's the point I want to see how far I can go.trust me any coral problem and the fish are going.

I have brackish fish in salt live for years.healthy and happy in fish only tanks.not all do bad.most were happy going salt then going all fresh.

the main question here though is....why? why on earth would you want to fill up room in your tank with brackish water fish? you cannot honestly say brackish water fish are nicer looking then salt. dont you feel its kind of a waist to have an awesome reef tank with brown/black/gray colored fish...

Also, you realize the shark will out-grow the system, right?

Why not. In reefs there are sharks swiming around.to me it makes it look more reel.I know its a cat fish but I can not go and fit a reel shark.it makes it unique. The whole system did not crash.don’t you ever just want a little differents.so I say why not.when it becomes a problem I will take it out.it might not be what other people want.but for me it looks cool to have a shark swiming around.

Obviously you have never seen african cichlids..they are gorgeous very similar colors to salt water some south americans are very beautiful as well.

African and south american chiclids are not brakish water fish. They are fresh water fish and will not acclimate to salt water params. Africans have pretty much the same pH but south americans usually like a pH around 6.5

Im all for this.I pllan to put a silvertip shark in my reef.I agree it looks cool having a mini shark cruzing around...not sure id trust a puffer in a reef but its worth a shot,many people thought I was nuts puttig a mantis in my reef intentionally lol
