Whats the best way to do water changes?

Add the new waster to you tank let it mix in then suck out the water back to the orignal water level?

Or

Suck out the old water to a level just before live stock in the tank than add new water to the tank?

Or

A diffrent way and please explain the way you do it?

thanks

Here is what I do hope this helps.

I start mixing the salt 3 days before I'm going to be using it. (Esv salt rocks). in a different container.
I shut down my return pump ,skimmer, reactors .
I then take out 10% of my tanks water volume.
Then I take the salt that has been mixing for 3 days and put it back into the sump.
Start the return pump and other pumps 1x1

Start your drain from dt. Let your level in the sump lower to a height just above a dry out. Start introducing new water into sump then match out the water in your bucket heights for replacing. Kind of tired but maybe you'll get what imsaying.

I pre mix my make up water for at least 24 hours. I take 20 gals of old water out of the DT and then pump the new water back in. I use a small pump so it takes about 20 mins to fill the DT back up. Make sure the new water is the same temp and pH before using.

Most mixes don't mix clear, with the exception of a few. (ESV) And chances are that your R/O water isn't the same temp as your tank. So I mix in a pail my new water with a heater and a power head and do my water change the following day.

+1. Exactly what I was trying to say. This is how I do mine as well.

In addition to premixing salt, its also important to match your new water with your tank temperatures.
sometimes mine nre water is a little higher.. i find it hard to match bc i mix my salt the night before the change and i leave the mag 9 in the container to keep it mixing so sometimes the temp goes up to 80 but i keep my tank at 77-78 i guess no big deal right??

u will siphon out the new water if you let it mix in with the tank...

but

mix up new water with salt and heat it up to match the temp in the tank. drain xx gallons of water from tank. put in xx gallons of new water.

I pre mix with ro water the day before. I use a small pump to take water out of the sump to a level i have marked then pump in the fresh water to the sump. I leave everything running in the sump. This works well for my setup

I pre-mix my water for about a day before, add some stress coat, stress zyme and add a few power heads to mix and keep the water aerated. I drain the display tank then add the pre-mixed water back.
