So, for the past month or so I have been having problems with my SPS and acans. I changed my bulbs to phoenix bulbs and everything looked awesome! My leng sy cap was a brilliant green with a blue rim, my spongodes finally started to turn neon green, and my new acans looked awesome! My zoas also started spreading like crazy. Then something happened... My leng sy cap bleached and died over the course of a month... My new acro colonies bleached (first due to red bugs but that was treated for and still bleaching), my spongodes browned out again, and my acans shrunk a lot. All of my softies are still doing ok, but no new growth. I have come up with some theories as to why this is happening, hopefully you guys can help.
1. I put a lot of GFO in my phosban reactor. It said that was the right amount but after I did this it seemed that my corals started having problems. Should I go back to the amount I was using before? And yes I did rinse before use.
2. My RO/DI filter cartridges... I am ashamed to admit this but I forgot to change out my cartridges for a year now. I have ordered new cartridges and they will be here on thursday. Could this fix the problem? This is my guess for the problem.
3. My salt. I used Coralife salt but I left the box open and it all hardened together. I read somewhere that it was safe because it was just because of moisture but I also read that this would mess up my tank... I did a few water changes with this salt around the time the problems started. I recognized the problem and ordered a bucket of DD H20cean salt. I love the results of this salt after seeing naples' tank. I think this will help a lot, but could this of been the problem?
4. Could the bulb change be the cause of the problem? I didn't think it would shock the corals since I was using Reeflux 10k bulbs before these and they have very high PAR. I also just ordered new VHO actinics because my actinics need to be replaced.
So what do you guys think I should do to fix the problem?
Thanks for any help!
