Most corals turn brown in tanks with higher waste levels. If you have sufficent lighting, decent flow, and improve water quality (lower nitrates + phosphate) you will see a change in color.

Yup!

better lighting is only a small part, it needs stable tank params, temp, water movement and salinity

If its SPS it also needs very low nutirents (p04,N03,N02,N01) than other corals, so water quality has to be high
