Best solution is to hardwire it as the upgrade will fail over a wireless connection.
Otherwise, get a wireless bridge or a "game adapter" to turn the wired port into wireless.

Wait you can hook it up to a game adapter? I didn't know that. I just have mine hardwired with an ethernet cable into my router. It just sucks because my router is the second floor and my tank is in the basement. How do you get it to work off your phone?

get the wireless game router. it goes 35 feet from your computer router

You can use a "game adapter" which is basically just a wireless bridge for one port. So you connect the Apex where you would connect your console and then need to program it to join your wireless network.
