Is TOO much carbon bad?

I was just curious, is running too much carbon bad? I have a 46g bow as most know, and just wanted to know. My reactor is big. It's 20 inches around and 20-22 inches tall. It's completely filled with carbon. It takes 1 1/2 - 2 liter containers of carbon to fill. Most reactors only take maybe close to 1 liter and those reactors are good up to 180g. So mind is good to what 550-700 gallons? Is it even proving anything running that much? I figure the bottom of the reactor is only doing the work and the carbon on top since there is so much Is doing nothing. So... is it ok to be running so much carbon on such a small tank or is it pointless or...ok.

Also, does it prove anything to put multiple medias in it? Like mixing carbon with phosban or gfo or something? Or better to stick with one type of media?

And finally, how often do you change your carbon? With how much carbon I run, how often do you think I should?

the ratio for carbon i believe is 1cup per 100 gallons and like all carbon it only lasts a month tops and yes running to much carbon can affect your fish it could cause head and lateral decease

IMO it may strip your tank of nutrients if you put too much.Others may chime in.

Carbon is def good to run but that's a waste man..get yourself a TLF 150 or something small and either sell or hold on to that 1 for an upgrade.

To much carbon is not good at all it will remove alot of elements that your coral will need and stress your corals out . All carbon is differnt read what you carbon say s to use per gallon. And some carbon is ment to change a mounth or every 2 week . I use BRS carbon and i add 8 TSP in my reactor and it need to be changed every 2 weeks.

dont mix reactor media like carbon and phosban because they both need different flow rates, carbon is like 300 something and phosban is only like 150
