Aquarium Water SmeLL...

mine smells faintly like the ocean- but if I clean out my HOB filter (no media) it smells strongly like the ocean- and if I trim the macro algae that grows on my rock, the bowl I put it in smells that way too.

i could imagine what curing the rock fully would do!

believe me, imoho sand sharks are boring and stinky. its like having a big fat lazy catfish.

an uncle of mine is all dreamy eyed about having a "shark tank" in his living room one day to show off, ya know the macho thing, but i don't know, its kind of torturous on such animals other than very small ones like wobbegongs and bamboo/cat type. people don't realize how big is big enough when youre talking about free-swimming sharks.

if you want sand-type sharks like that you could just catch them at rockaway beach if you're patient enough.

cause its like from dried up ocean flats in asia and africa...

have you seen the salt farmers documentary on the discovery channel? kosher salt us usually from those sea sources (whereas table salt is from salt mines underground). they showed the people walking over the salt barefoot and stuff before it is packaged (kosher) or processed (table) :irked:

i used to think kosher salt meant it was from the dead sea or something but actually it got that name just because it is used for koshering -- the large salt crystals draw out blood when preparing or preserving meat (since blood is haram!) better than table salt.

i've got a craving for a warm salty pretzel now :icon16:

everything is doing super in the tanks and the fish are fine. parameters are great too.
but it just has a sweet smell.
any thoughts.

Hmm. . .Joe, I guess the scent is in the nose of the beholder, because mine smells like the ocean, lol.(so does everyone elses almost)

the few reefers that keep a glass top over the whole tank would definitely get more of a wiff of the ocean compared to open top reef tank reefers.

When i was in Israel in 86 the salt was not only a piles of salt ,But actualy looked like Big A$$ mushrooms in the ocean .MOre then 3 of us walk almost half way in the dead seaa w/out going into more then 4inches of water ,I wil look for apic and see if i cn scan it .Its an amazin site to see .Althou Comm development ruined that area for Dead Sea products:irked:
