skimmer reccomendation

hey guys im stgarting a 240 gallon,,,,and looking for skimmer,,,,what would u reccomend????my budget is based on skimmer if it makes my life easier ,,then i will spend the extra bucks...

If there is a Bubble Magus sized for your tank, go with it. I have a NAC7 on my 90 gal. and it is awesome!

we just put an octopus super reef 5000 on a friends 265g. that skimmer is a warlord.

If you want the most bang for your dollar, definitly go with a Super Reef Octopus. But if you want the best of the best. Royal Exclusive's Bubble King model, Deltec's TC and SC models, and MRC recirculating beckett foam skimmers.

I have a reef ocotopus HUrricone Cat 2 internal on my 180 and I love it. I got mine used, but it performs like a champ!

My friend had a SWC180 and a deltec and he likes mine better lol.

I ran a dual beckett mr2 for along time, and its not even in the same league as that octopus.
The sr 5000 says 18X18 but we got it int a 17X18 with room to spare.

Really ??? So you've actually owned or tested these skimmers against the 5000 Super Reef Octopus ? I guess the guys who've actually tested skimmer for skimmer, efficiency and performance, have no clue what they're taking about. Lol...

well lets see i have had 20+ skimmers so i have a little clue, and have another i am beta testing for a company coming this week. but i will use a example for you, das ex1 recirc vs deltec pf600 exact same skimmer body and build use's exact same pump. so which is better ? the deltec because it says deltec ? or the das cause it is over half the price ? or lets go to the vertex line of alpha cone skimmers, which are made by same company as BK, now BK put their own line of cone skimmers out which is a exact replica of the alpha. is the BK better because it says BK ? or i could continue with other deltecs vs euroreefs

I took NYREef recommendation on my current skimmer and absolutely love it.

If i need a new one in the future he will be my go to guy.

on btw note, i have nothing against deltec, bk or other high dollar skimmer's, and 5 years ago and more they lead the way, but there are so many other companies out now that rival the performance of those companies. and there is a article in reguards to skimmers, and the best was only 10% more efficient, 10% doesnt equal several hundreds of dollars to me

I have a sro xp 3000Int on my 180 and am very happy with it.
The xp 5000 would be a good choice but I bet the xp 3000 will be more than enough for your tank.

This is like saying that a Ford is just as good as a BMW or a Mercedes, only because they have the same horse power. And also that they charge double because they feel like it.

for that size tank the super reef octo xp 3000 external would work perfect i have a 5000 external on my 180 plumbed to a 600 gallon system and it's an overkilled i could had gone with the 3000 but like paulliewalnuts said it's not just performance that you get in a skimmer you also got to look at the overall quality & future issues that certain skimmers will give at the end of the day you get what you pay for

That's correct paul they not even in the same ball park but I will say this deltec royal exclusiv and mrc are great skimmers the super reef octo is a good skimmer for its price no doubt about it those skimmers that are pricey are pricey for a quality b material's used and c technology

this is more my point with skimmers like i said i have owned alot and used alot, and have had the upper end skimmers as well. and just like the rep's at macna couldnt justify the cost of the deltec to me per performance compared to other skimmers, will say the material is thicker on higher end but so is it on the vertex which isnt a expensive skimmer but if you add a really good pump there goes a few hundred added to the price. performance is performance reguardless of price or name,
