New Bulb question

I changed a 250W double ended 20K bulb today. the one i had was from Dr Mac. it had a blue tinge. I replaced it with a coralvue 20K and it looks more like a 14k or 10k. any chance its not a 20k? any way I can tell?

is it gonna do any damage?
any advice?

I think the Dr. sells XMs which i find are whiter then CV.
If its much brighter it can cause damage, you should put a few layers of nylon screening on top of your egg crate, and remove 1 layer every 2 days.

the one from dr mac though is bluer than this.
and, what egg crating? if i put ehh crating over the tank and nylong screen over that, too much light would be blocked i think.
i think i will put the old bulb back and order one from dr mac.

anyone want to buy a 250w hqi coralvue 20k bulb with less than 20 hours on it???

Sometimes there's a code on the bulb. Check one end or the other.

Also, the bulb will color up truer after a burn in period. Usually it's around 100 hours or so. So you might want to let it go for another week, and see if you like it then.

Eggcrate light diffuser is used as a lid, it helps keep fish from carpet surfing, helps with evaporation, temp, some say gas exchange.
IMO, it wont hurt anything. Your adding more light each day, i've used this method for yrs.
That K thing is not that accurate, the color temperature changes with each bulb manufacturer.
