OK finally got my 125 w/40 sump cycling. i'm trying to do everything the right way. i have ro water s/g @ .0121. dual overflow plumbed down into the sump. about 50 lbs of live sand and about 100 lbs of live rock. asm g3 skimmer w/sedra 5000. and quite one 5000 return pump for now. in the process of sting up refugium- what exactly do i need for that? i was told i can use soil??? some live rock and cheato?? the only other thing i plan on adding as far as equipment is a uv sterilizer. then when i plan on adding fish i'm going to make a list of what i want, but how do i know what can coexist with what. and what goes in first, then second, etc....

Make a list of what you plan on keeping in the tank to begin with. Will this be a FO or will you have coral in there? Now my question to you is.. if you have a sump already going where are you planning on keeping your fuge? IS this a seperate tank that you will be plumbing through your sump?
Without knowing what your intentions are it's kind of hard to really give you advice on husbandry.
Take a few pictures of your setup for an idea.

What you should do is get a hold of some miracle mud... if you choose. Otherwise... yes any aragonite and live rock will be suffice to sustain critters and bacteria for breakdown.

Well what kind of tank are you planning on setting up? Did you only want a fish only tank? Cause with some of the critters there, you will not be doing a reef.
Now that you have decided on your chosen few... start your research on what the behavior and what will be needed to keep them. BTW... if you have .0121 for your SG... that's still considered fresh water.
