Ive been on here for a while too,
But have yet to reach 500...

but. having a minimum amount of posts increases TROLLS.
we dont want random posts just saying "LOL"

What about a time frame? say 4 months? before you can sell in the marketplace?

I dont know but the 500 min.
Quality not Quantity.

My 2 cents

If someone really wanted to sell stuff on here they could post meaningless posts until they hit their target number to unlock marketplace and then just post stuff for sale. There should be some sort of minimum percentage of posts in other forums compared to the marketplace on a monthly basis in order to keep the market place access. .
If you're familiar with Reef Central, they have a post count AND time minimum. Plus the mods will delete all 'BS' posts, from your count, and 'lounge' posts do not count.

Wherever I see a 'new' member selling something, I like to check their other posts. Give me 10 minutes, and I'll bet I can find 5 new members, each with over 50 posts, ALL in Marketplace, trying to sell something.
Contributing...NOTHING!
That 'minimum % of posts in other forums' idea, is interesting.

Just an idea for the 'powers that be'.... if you were to put a post count in place to unlock the marketplace, don't let posts in the nudibar increase post counts. Those are technically not even reefing posts. This could help to allow a lower post count to gain access to the restricted forums while still hopefully forcing meaningful posts. Just an idea....

I've been here for a long time myself, yet my post count does not represent this. When I first came on I kept my posts to a minimum and read what others had to say. Now I would like to think that as knowledgable members of this site ,we as individuals are smart enough to know when someone is on this site to just sell a few items and nothing else. And we should have the common sense to steer clear of such individuals so that the sale of that item does not succeed. However, as much as some of us complain and point this behavior out, there will always be someone that will make that purchase. Imposing a post count will only bother those that ,like ming are here for more than just selling or buying. Lets just help each other steer clear of individuals that are here for "The sale" and nothing else. I believe we already have something like this in place and thats the "reefers ratings". this is something i always use when dealing with other members. Hope this helps.

look at my start date and post count! to me i think its more about how long you've been on these forums. a new member doesn't really need to sell stuff don't you think?
in the end there are always people who would prefer others to answer questions etc, for the simple fact that you can say look at their tank they know what they're doing compared to me

Actually, your right, but I would say 100 is fair. Within one month you can easily have welcomed yourself enough to us and get 100 posts. 50 posts can just be nonsense things. I'd say 100 would be fair. But I do believe this would be the easiest way to fix this though right? Then again, it's not up to us. I've always thought this should have been the rules.

OR, if your new, and just want to post for sale items, then they have to donate to the community here. And not get mad when we call you out on high prices:bunnies:

I agree that maybe locking down the marketplace a bit is a good thing, but 500 or even 100 is quite alot! Many people can gain from the marketplace not only the sellers but the new beginner buyers. I'd say 25 or maybe 50 is a fair number, enough to actually see people contribute but also control spam as I can already see the "hi... bye!" posts coming from users who just want to get their count up to get into the marketplace.

I like that idea russ. IMO 50-100 posts would be an adequate number.

500 ??!......... Oh wait I'm there already :)

I would agree that a minimum is a good idea. 500 is definitely excessive but 100 is more than fair. I think 50 would be a doable n umber but would work better with a 90 day "Probation period" attached to it.

I can't say enough about how nice, helpful and understanding most of the members on here are. Those that are simply posting to sell are really missing out on the best part of MR.

I have a moral question to ask? Why is buying and selling a bad thing?

To me, buying and selling is a service to both sides. However, like NYnoob said, a fraud(which is in his original post) does no service to the community. His content seems to be more about fraud and not contributing to the community.

Getting FREE info from the forum is a plus to the community and getting quality products from a respected member or vendor is also a plus to the community which enrich our collection of the "precious" and more equipped to deal with the horror or reefing nightmare. So the question should be addressed back to fraud not people who just come here to sell or buy. THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. A person who come on the site just to sell does not necessarily be a bad person at all. Do not confuse with cheaters. Cheaters can be within our community for a long time and may have lots of posts. That's where the traders rating comes into function(sometimes not very functional though due to the user's fear of reprisal.) Do these sellers use up the "FREE information grapper's" resources? YES. So, for practical reasons(such as needs of finance to run the servers) and not for moral ground, I would opt for only donors and/or vendors can sell.

Note: One does not have to go to the Market Place forum either. One can stay in the forums of beginners, advanced, nano, ..... there are too many to list. Why controlling someone else's freedom of selling as long as they are not doing harm to us?

Hate to say it but Mr is all about money now. I remember when I found this site back in the day it was all about helping out other refers and we didn't have half the vendors we have now. Even the so called swaps should be called something else cause there is very little swaping going on more like a vendor showcase. So why shouldn't members whore there goods when mr is just a high priced whore
