Hi All!

I am currently trying to set-up an Apex controller and I'm having trouble setting up the network. I have been following the unofficial guide on reeftech.webs.com but I'm getting a little confused on how to setup the system so that I can access my apex from any computer outside of my network or on the 3G network from my iPhone.

I have already assigned my apex an ip address. I have setup port-forwarding so that it is forwarded to 1080. I have a dyndns.com account (should the ip address for that account be the ip address on the apex or from my router- it works with the ip address from my apex)
When I write in http://apex:1080 at home it works. When I type in myname.dyndns-ip.com:1080 it works as well. I can't get it to work by writing http:// ipaddress:1080

I can login to any computer at home under my network but when I use 3G to access aquanotes or go to a friends house and use their computer I can't get my apex site to load. My ISP is Verizon Fios. Thoughts? Suggestions? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

verizon fios even though you probably have a dynamic ip address like me it hasn't changed in over 2 years so dont bother using the dydns thing just make sure you forward the ports on the verizon router by going to firewall then port forwarding then add and specify the ip address of the apex and make sure you turn the apex to static mode then in the drop down box click custom ports and then type 1080 as your port and click add. then type in the address bar of your computer http://yourip:1080 and even on your own network that will work telling you that it will work off of your network. let us know if it works!

Dyndns.com should be pointing to your external facing IP address.

http://www.whatismyip.com/ will show what your external facing IP is, and you should be pointing DYNDNS to that IP...

So my external IP address is my routers main IP address? Or is it the IPv4,5,6? I have my main IP address now under my dyndns-ip.com acct and it still doesn't work when I try to load it up on a computer away from home.

Your external IP address is what is assigned to you by your Internet provider. The link I provided will tell you your external address on the top of the page (Your IP Address Is: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).

Okay, yes. Perfect. So I have that IP address in my dyndns acct. The apex page won't load if I use it. Only at home it works if I use write in that page. Could the problem be with writing the wrong thing in the port forwarding section of my router?

What should I be typing in on a webpage to start it up? Myname.dyndns-ip.com:1080? Is that correct? The DHCP on my apex is off. It has a static ip address. I set up the port forwarding to 1080. I set up my dyndns acct. Am I missing something? Should the netmask and gateway values be similar to what's on the comp? Does that even matter? Thanks for your help!

Actiontec MI424WR Verizon FiOS Router. Maybe I didn't set up the port forwarding right? Should I maybe change the port?

Okay, on the ActionTec are you forwarding TCP Port 1080 traffic from ANY to Port 1080 <Apex IP> ?

Can you open browser to <External IP>:1080 from your PC? Does it work?

Not sure if your still having issue's but you might have to turn the firewall on your router to the lowest setting.
I tried to setup some things on fios router (xbox live) being one of them and the routers firewall blocked everything till i turned that setting to low.

Hmmm... Maybe that's it. I'm forwarding tcp 80 traffic from any to 1080. That's what the manual told me to for Verizon Fios. Could that be it? So when I write <External IP>:1080 from my PC it doesn't open. Apex:1080 works though.

Maybe this can be more of a help: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1760163

Setting the firewall to Low might work, but that'll drop your firewall protection across the board.

Thanks. I used this guide to help me with the port forwarding. I did everything that he did and my settings look just like how he has it in the picture. I guess I'll have to play around with it more. Maybe start all over or create another port instead of 1080? Thanks for your help!!

You can try a different port, I not aware of Verizon blocking port 1080; but things could've changed. Post your results...
