I had this happen at my house tank and also at my office tank. What is weird is both tanks have other green star polops colonies that are just fine??? They all seem to open the next day. Not sure if it is a fish picing or just maybe did not like the lighting tha day. I did nothing diffrent to tank as means of wc,change media, flter sock, etc in past 2 weeks??....
I also thought hermits but to have a 12'' by 12'' colonie close is just weird.....:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Oddly, I have the same issue. I have 2 colors in the tank...the green closed up about 2 or 3 months ago. It is still alive but barely comes out..maybe 1/16" and that's it. I also have Red Star poylps (it's called red but is really a dirty dull washed -out burgandy looking color) ALL over the rear wall of the same tank and it is all totally open like there is no issue.

It makes zero sense to me.
I'm just waiting it out.
I may move a small piece of the green to another one of my tanks and see if it opens in there.

This happened to me awhile back and I figured it out after a month or so. What I found out was my moon lights were too bright at night. my GSP would be open 24/7. At night, if it's not dark enough, GSP will stay open. I did not run my moon lights for a few nights, and I would check real late at night to see, but they were still open just from light on in the room. Eventually I got it dark enough at night so they would close, and then during the day they were better then ever. But when it was too much light at night, they would close during they day because they were getting too much light for too long of periods of time. Sadly, all my other corals are not this way and are fine, and I still today run my moon lights, and my GSP are back and forth. The nights they close up, the next day all day they are open...and the nights they are open, then during the day they would close up at times...

so today the gsp was closed in my house tank so i decided i do a water change and shut off my mp40 and mp60 like i always do, after 20mins of draining 100gals the gsp started to open again??? Still not 100% sure it can be the flow but very strage............
So after WC i decided not to turn on mp40s and mp60 to keep ond eye on it, i keep you posted

I think it is sensitive to flow also Jarrett. Mine is in a good spot where it gets flow but it's not crazy. I don't like the flow too high in my tanks in general I noticed my corals seem happier and more open w/ less flow.

well still having the same problem:..........

1) office tank;they start to close after the 5th hour of MH's light so i think it is to much lighting or to strong. Never had problem before and light cycle is the same???

2) house tank opens up when atinic are on only but when my white lights go one they close up??

I tried to lower speed on mp40's and mp60's and I ruled out it is flow
I also kept an eye on all my levels and no change at all
not going to change my lighting for this coral so i guess i hope it makes it but just sucks to see this 10x10 rock full of it all closed up
