I always dip my corals before puting them in the tank and when i put my rocks in my tank they were all dead rocks. Now im starting to see aptaisha pop in all over my rock! They are in places were i have never touched before and no frag/coral has ever been there.

How does aptaisha spread? Whats the best way to get rid of them? And how do they form?

You got it as a hitch hiker probably one one of the corals. a dip will not do anything to aptasia. You will just need to control population by either using a product like aptasiaX or similar. Best way to remove them is to dry the rock. That way it will dry up and have no way of releasing additional spores into the water to help spread.

Aiptasia release what is called planula. Pretty much "seeds that they can release into the water column. They float around and attach pretty much anywhere.

thats exaclty what happened. So now they are just oging to form everywhere? how can i stop this?

There is no dip on the market that can kill aptasia without harming your corals. Most likely they came on your corals. This is just the beginning of your dilemma. Or you might as well just live with them depending on how many you have. If you can remove the rocks infested do so.

What about the aptaisha zapper? how does that work? i dont mind going inmy tank once a week to kill them, if i keep doing that i can most likely kill all of them.. right?

Peppermint shrimp and copper bands also kill aptaisha right? i also heard peppermint shrimp sometimes eat zoa's is that correct?

The problem with treating them in your tank is that if you don't do it just right, they will release the planula as a last-ditch effort to reproduce. They release them from around their oral disk so in the case of Aiptasia X, you have to cover the whole disk before it closes up.

Copperbands and Peppermints will eat them. The problem with the copperbands is keeping them alive after they eat all of the aiptasia. As far as the Peppermints, I think that they will go after the Aiptasia first and them if you keep them well-fed after that you shouldn't have a problem with them eating any zoas. You could also try and remove them once the aiptaisa are gone but that is usually much easier said than done.

Filefish did it fir me in about 3 days ate over 100.
I'm sure they will be back but whatever its clean for now.

So are you suggesting to just use the copperband and not even try to aiptasia X because i have more of a chance of having the aiptasia release the planula?

yah i have heard about Peppermints eating zoas so i dont think im gona take the chance. Also, to get them out would be a pain so i dont want to go through that.

Yes Mostly LPS. ,,Acans and stuff. But like with everyting else in this hobby. You have to be willing to sacrafice something to get what you want out of your diplay.
All of these things can co exist in the ocean because it is not 2-2000 gallons of water in a glass box.
There is a filefish on a lending thread. It is part of a program on LIRA reef central forum.
Seeing as you are from LI it might behoove you to join LIRA. The meetings always have great lectures and the people involved are good eggs.

This may sound silly, in the past I've taken the rock out and I squirt super glue in the small area that it occupies. I'll let the glue cure in the dry for a few mins. Seemed to work very well, even with hydroids.

Think of it as being entombed in frag glue.

the only LPS i have are 3 favias. then all i have is monti's, sps, and zoa's.

You think i should use the filefish and move my 3 favias to another tank for a little and then catch the filefish? or you thnik catching the filefish will be too hard?

ok i'll be buying one tomorrow.. how long does it usually take to clear them up? i have about 8..1 is huge the others r very tiny.. Also when i get the copperband should i feed it? or let it feed off the aiptasha first?
