This hobby is the best when you are responsible and aware of what you are doing, regardless of if it only cost a $1. I don't know the lifespan of a Xmas tree worm but if it is more than a year, I don't care if it is free, you won't see one in my tank. The more responsible we are, the better chance we have of continuing to have importing be legal, once the wrong mindset takes hold, it is only a matter of time before importing of coral is shut down and our hobby made ilegal or limited to the corals we already have.

Fully agree. I saw christmas worms in person on the reef and I am sure collecting them leave a huge impact on the reef. They always grow on large colonies of porties or brains so, to get them, collectors are either taking whole colonies or brake them underwater. Here's a picture I took some time ago while snorkeling:

And I'm not trying to say that I've never bought a coral that has been harvested from the ocean, but in this case it's really not worth the stress they're putting on the reef to get you that $30 (or $2.50/month:banghead:) worm that will probably end up dying from starvation. If you're really into worms, try maybe a coco worm, they are much easier to feed and have better record of keeping in captivity.
