Sump plumbing leaking

I have a sump that I'm trying to plumb to my display tank. The sump is in the stand, and the problem is that there is barely any space between the side of the sump and the inside of the stand, 3 inches at max for a bulkhead. Therefore, I am forced to reverse the bulkhead, meaning that the long side is inside the sump. Is this something I can do? Because this bulkhead keeps leaking and I was wondering if bulkheads are only meant to fit it in a certain way.

Nevermind I got it. I put the gasket on the other side and voila leaking stopped.
