I've decided to finally use a canopy, and in the past few days, I've been shopping for a retro kit, undecided how many bulbs and what brand to use. Today, as I was cleaning my tank and looking at my current lighting fixture, I was wondering is it possible!!!

Can I take apart my existing 72" Current Nova Extreme Pro 12 x 39w Fixture out of its shell and install into a canopy like a retro kit?

i'm not sure if you are going to be able to use the end caps, unless you somehow you retrofit them to. I looked at doing this when in i had my 175, but everything in my fixture, was either riveted or it was snapped in.

If you're that handy, sure. Take notes of the wiring and bulb positions, then try to rigging the end caps into the canopy.

How about build the canopy with top mid part open then sit the fixture on top.

Steve, I've thought of that! But I already have a canopy too nice to chop up. And the fixture does not fit inside the canopy.

Johnny is much easier to build a new canopy with a gab on the with fixture size than taking the fixture apart but if you're handy go for it. keep in mind you're pretty much using the ballast and the bulbs from the fixture only, you need to buy waterproof end caps.
