Stray current

Hello all, i have a bit of a problem. the other day i came home, a rock fell over in my tank no big deal stuck my hand in my tank and got a pretty good shock. i already have one grounding plug in my sump so i went out and bought another. checked for current before putting it in the tank and it wasnt there NO CURRENT.put it in the overflow anyway checked later and the current was back, with one probe in sump and one probe in overflow.

Should i buy another probe? is there a better way to test where its coming from since the current is not present all the time? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Where did u ground the probes to?

at the moment they are grounded to a power strip im planning on later today to relocate it to be grounded to a wall outlet

Get it grounded to the wall outlet. Usually use the center screw. Most of the time its due to a heater failing.

if it is the heater it should only send out current when it turns on right?
